Qing Li

I’m a physical oceanographer and ocean modeler. I’m currently an Assistant Professor in the Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences Thrust at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), or HKUST(GZ) for short, and an Affiliate Assistant Professor in the Department of Ocean Science at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Before joining HKUST(GZ) in 2021, I did my postdoc research in the Fluid Dynamics and Solid Mechanics division at Los Alamos National Laboratory, working on the Energy Exascale Earth System Model (E3SM) project. I received my PhD in 2018 from the Department of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences at Brown University, working with Prof. Baylor Fox-Kemper. See my PhD dissertation here. Before that I received a Master’s degree in Meteorology and a Bachelor’s degree in Atmospheric Sciences from the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at Peking University, working with Prof. Haijun Yang. See more in my CV.

Zheng Wei

Zheng joined the group as a PhD student in Sep 2022. He is currently working on ocean boundary layer turbulence in coastal environment under various complex forcing and background conditions using large eddy simulations. Before joining the group, Zheng received a Master’s degree in Marine Science from the School of Oceanography, Shanghai Jiao Tong Universiy, working with Prof. Zhaoru Zhang on the air-ice-sea interaction in Antarctic polynyas. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from the School of Petroleum Engineering, China University of Petroleum (East China).

Wentao Pan

Wentao joined the group as a PhD student in Sep 2022. He is currently working on the influence of a diurnal cycle on Langmuir turbulence. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Process Equipment and Control Engineering from East China University of Science and Technology. During his undergraduate study, he gained some research experience on two-phase flows in microchannels, working with Prof. Zhenhai Pan at Shanghai Jiao Tong Universiy. In his spare time, his likes to travel, discover delicious food, and play basketball.

Xinghao Jiang

Xinghao joined the group as a PhD student in Sep 2023. He is currently working on the interaction between ocean surface boundary layer turbulence and submesoscale flows. Before joining the group, Xinghao obtained a Master’s degree in Fluid Machinery and Engineering from the School of Energy and Power Engineering at Xi’an Jiaotong University, working with Prof. Jiazhong Zhang on studying the interaction between shock waves and boundary layers in supersonic flow. Xinghao also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Energy and Power Engineering from the same institution.

Shihao Zou

Shihao joined the group as a PhD student in Sep 2023. His current research focuses on modeling the ocean surface waves and wave-current interaction. Before joining the group, Shihao conducted his master’s research at the School of Electronic Information and Communications at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, where he worked with Prof. Chen Ping on satellite measurements of ocean wave spectra. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the School of Physics at the Central China Normal University.
